What does SaaS stand for?
SaaS is an acronym for Software as a Service and is the name given to digital products and services which are often delivered online and paid for on a subscription basis - weekly, monthly or yearly.
What is SaaS branding?
SaaS branding is the process of creating a brand for a SaaS company and includes both the verbal identity: everything the company stands for, covering tone of voice, personality, mission, vision, values, messaging and copy. It’s also the visual identity including logo, colour, typography, imagery and motion design.
What is SaaS design?
A broader definition of SaaS design includes SaaS branding, SaaS marketing and SaaS product design but here at Vector we focus on the latter when we talk about SaaS design i.e. the process and outputs of designing the digital product itself. This includes the UX research, UX design, prototyping, testing right through to the hi-fidelity interface designs.
What is SaaS strategy?
A SaaS strategy outlines how you'll grow your software business. It covers your target market, pricing model, customer acquisition plan, retention tactics, and product development roadmap. Like all strategies it boils down to what your goals are - in this case creating a successful SaaS business - and how you’ll achieve that.
What does branding service mean?
A branding service is normally provided by a consultant or agency (like us!) and covers a range of services from naming, positioning, developing a verbal identity to designing the visual identity - logo, type, imagery. It can also include maintaining the brand as the company grows and evolves.
What is an example of SaaS
There are many popular and successful SaaS products and services - Google Workspace, Salesforce, Slack, Mailchimp, Shopify and Miro are all examples of SaaS companies which have also invested heavily in their SaaS branding to help achieve their success.
What are examples of good Saas brands?
When we talk about 'good' generally we mean 'effective' as good is very subjective and there are many examples of effective SaaS brands - Mailchimp is a distinctive brand with its lovable chimp brand character and off-the-wall marketing it pioneered the tech-with-personality brands which became prevalent in the 2010s. Google of course is a superbrand owing much to the success of the search engine first. Another brand we found particularly effective was Gumroad - from its key messaging to the visual identity it has become a distinctive SaaS brand in a competitive marketplace.
Is Facebook a SaaS?
Technically Facebook isn’t a SaaS as users don’t pay a subscription for the service. However, arguably users are paying for the service in the form of their user data which is harvested and utilised as part of the targeting capabilities of its advertising platform. So whilst there isn’t an explicit fee paid by users, there is a transaction of sorts taking place.
Why is SaaS branding so important?
If a SaaS is a product that is useful and people buy it for its utility then brand shouldn’t be important but actually it’s more important than ever. Most SaaS markets are heavily competitive and SaaS companies need to differentiate themselves as much as they can in order to gain those valuable customers so the branding and marketing has become almost as important as the product itself.
How much does it cost to create a SaaS brand?
Without understanding the requirements in detail, it is generally very hard to estimate the cost of creating a SaaS brand. However, to give some guidance for our charges we provide start-up packages that start at £6,500 for the visual identity including logo design, colour palette, typeface choice, imagery direction, treatment examples and a guideline page. If you would like the verbal identity included, packages start at £9,500.
